About the Builder, Joe Koch
Joe Koch is a lifelong resident of Austintown and a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School where he was an outstanding athlete. Joe was selected as the Most Valuable Player, All North East Ohio and All Steel Valley defensive back for his performance on the Falcon's football team in 1975. He was also a star track and field athlete. He was a state-qualifying pole vaulter and a member of the 880 yd. relay team which both finished 7th in the State. His pole vault record of 14' 1" still holds the Fitch record.
Prior to launching into business, Joe met and married the former Patti Brace of Austintown. They currently reside in Austintown with their four children, Joseph Jr., Anthony, Victoria and Amanda. Patti is a registered nurse and homemaker and Joe credits her support for his successes over the years.
After attending Heidelberg College and Youngstown State University, Joe began the Koch Construction Company in 1978 that did rough framing, room additions, roofing, and remodeling in the building trade. In 1988, through hard work and ambition, Joe purchased Stanjim Homes, a well-known and successful construction company. From that point on, his companies opened numerous developments in Austintown and other valley locations. His organization was recognized by "Inc" Magazine as the 140th fastest growing private company in the United States.
The Koch Company has developed the Fairview Heights, Countryside, Stone Hollow, Boulder Creek, Spring Meadow and Meander Cove subdivisions in Austintown and over five other developments in other locations.
Joe was recognized as a leader in the Construction field by being elected to the Board of Directors of the Home Builders Association of Mahoning Valley from 1991-2003.
With all his success in the building trade, Joe has found ways to say thank you to Austintown for its support and has shown his community spirit in many ways. In 2002 Joe established the KOCH FAMILY CHARITABLE FOUNDATION to maintain, operate and fund recreational community baseball leagues in the tri-county area. His foundation and companies have sponsored numerous baseball teams from Little League through Class B baseball and many youth soccer teams. He was a prime mover in renovating and maintaining Champ Field and his recent take-over of the other baseball fields on Raccoon Road will provide the youth of our Community facilities second to none for the future.
Joe Koch's lifelong, commitment to Austintown Township in providing beautiful, affordable housing and his commitment of his business and family to support civic projects for children and adults makes him an excellent Hall of Fame member.
